Crawley

Crawley has been settled since the Stone Age, and the Romans settled and created ironworks here. The Saxons named the area Crow's Leah, which means a crow-infested clearing, or Crow's Wood. By the 14th century, it had evolved to Crawley. The town has expanded by the creation of 13 neighbourhoods, with new houses and bungalows, but no tower blocks.
