The historic Nottinghamshire town of Southwell is the site of Southwell Minster, the cathedral of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham, although the town has not been recognised as a city by the government.

The earliest church buildings on the cathedral site date back to 627 and the cathedral dates from 1884. Several other historic buildings can be found in Southwell, including the prebendal houses dating from 1291 and Southwell Minster School which dates back to 956. The 1824 Workhouse is owned by the National Trust and is now home to a museum which recreates life in Victorian the work house.

Southwell lies on the River Greet and is just 14 miles from Nottingham. It has long been an affluent area with many good quality homes and was voted ‘Best Place to Live 2017 for the Midlands area'.
