The small town of Ollerton lies on the edge of Sherwood Forest, forming part of the civil parish of Ollerton and Boughton. The homes in New Ollerton were built to accommodate colliery workers from the pit that closed in 1994, with hot water pumped direct to the houses from the pit. The good quality semi-detached houses became known as a ‘model village’.

The restored building of Ollerton Watermill, built in 1713, sits on the River Maun in the old village and now houses a teashop and exhibition. There are a number of way-marked trails in the Ollerton and Boughton Parish, some with good views of Sherwood Forest.

The town has good road links and is 30 minutes from the M1.
