Bromley's name was first recorded in 862AD as 'Bromleag', meaning 'Woodland clearing where Broom grows'. It lent its name to the London Borough of Bromley in 1965. The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul was 18th century, but all but the tower was destroyed in the Blitz and is Grade II* listed.
