Hartland

Hartland is a large village and the most north-westerly settlement in the county of Devon, which until Tudor times was an important port.

There are many notable buildings in and around Hartland including Hartland Abbey which was constructed in 1157. In 1539 it became the last monastery to be dissolved by Henry VIII who gave the building to William Abbot – his Sergeant of the Wine Cellar at Hampton Court.

Another notable property in Hartland is The Parish Church of St Nectan which can boast the highest tower in Devon, standing at 128ft.
