Bodmin

Bodmin's name is believed to have come from the old Cornish words 'bod' and 'menegh' meaning "monks' dwelling". In the 6th century St. Petroc founded a monastery in Bodmin, thus making it one of the oldest towns in Cornwall. It is also the only large Cornish settlement to be mentioned in the Domesday Book. The parish church of St Petroc is Grade I listed.
