Beccles lies on the River Waveney, on the edge of the Broads National Park. The Bell Tower of St Michael's Church (which started construction about 1500, known as the Beccles Bell Tower) is separate from the main body of the church, and at the 'wrong' end due to the proximity of the River. The Perpendicular Gothic tower is Grade 1 listed.
