Spelled 'Flytwyk' in 1381, Flitwick is recorded in the Domesday Book as a "hamlet on the River Flitt". There was a Motte and Bailey castle in the 11th century, although all that shows now is the earthworks, called 'The Mount'. The Church of St Peter and St Paul is Grade I listed, dating to the 12th century. Flitwick Manor is Georgian, Grade II* listed and said to be haunted!
