Droylsden

Droylsden is a mill town in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside. The world's first machine-woven terry towel was manufactured in Droylsden in 1851 by Christy's on an adapted loom in their cotton mill - Fairfields Mill - after the owner's son returned from Turkey with a looped towel. Queen Victoria was a regular customer.
