The following are the 10 largest Data Storage Facilities by size and power.  Currently, all but one are in the USA or China. 

Caveat

Reporting is inconsistent and, particularly for Chinese facilities, statistics are hard to verify.  Some have claimed footprints that do not reconcile with satellite images.  This explains why our list here may differ from others.  For example, the blackridgeresearch.com listing places our top Chinese Data Storage Facilities below the top three USA centres.   We have striven to make clear where there is uncertainty about the data.

 

1  China Telecom Inner Mongolia Information Park — Hohhot, China

Reported area: 10,763,910 sq ft | 1,000,000 sq metres | 247 acres | 100 hectares
Power capacity: 150 MW
Owner: China Telecom (state-owned)

This facility, the cornerstone of China’s national digital infrastructure, is in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia where the cold, dry climate allows natural air cooling.

It hosts major Chinese cloud providers including Alibaba, Tencent, and Baidu,

According to Data Center Dynamics, their satellite analysis suggests that the actual built area may be closer to 1 million square feet across six buildings.

 

2 Switch Citadel Campus — Tahoe Reno, Nevada, USA

Reported area: 7,200,000 sq ft | 668,901 sq metres | 165 acres | 67 hectares
Power capacity: 650 MW
Owner: Switch Inc. (owned by DigitalBridge and IFM Investors)

The Citadel is the largest data centre campus in the western world and one of the most technologically advanced.  It operates entirely on renewable energy and serves cloud, enterprise, and colocation customers across finance, technology, and government sectors.

Its security is the highest industry standard (Tier IV Gold) and it is enclosed by a 20-foot reinforced concrete perimeter wall.

Its 650 MW power capacity is sufficient to power a medium-sized city. The campus is connected to Switch’s other Nevada facility in Las Vegas via 500 miles of fibre-optic cable, allowing data to travel between the two sites in 7 milliseconds.

 

3 China Mobile Hohhot Data Centre — Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, China

Reported area: 7,750,015 sq ft | 720,000 sq metres | 178 acres | 72 hectares

Like Number 1, China Mobile’s Hohhot campus is located in Inner Mongolia’s Information Park.  It was announced in 2014 and the plans included 18 data centre buildings and capacity for 1.2 million servers. Its intelligent computing centre delivers 6,700 petaflops of AI computing power.

 

4  China Mobile Harbin Intelligent Computing Centre — Harbin, China

Reported area: 7,100,000 sq ft | 663,000 sq metres | 164 acres | 66 hectares
Power capacity: not publicly disclosed
Owner: China Mobile (state-owned)

The Harbin facility in north east China started service in 2024.  The cold climate provides natural cooling thereby reducing energy consumption.

It offers 18,000 AI accelerator cards and 6.6 exaFLOPS of computing power.

 

5  Alibaba Zhangbei Data Centre — Zhangbei County, Hebei, China

Reported area: 7,190,000 sq ft | 667,972 sq metres | 165 acres | 67 hectares
Power capacity: 150 MW
Owner: Alibaba Cloud

Again, energy-efficiency is provided by its location at high altitude in Hebei province, Costing in excess of $2.9 billion to construct, it has 52 buildings each capable of housing 50,000 data racks.

It is the primary infrastructure backbone for Alibaba Cloud’s domestic and international services.

 

6 Range International Information Group — Langfang, China

Reported area: 6,300,000 sq ft | 585,000 sq metres | 145 acres | 58 hectares

Owner: Range International / IBM partnership

The Langfang facility benefits from high-speed fibre connectivity to both Beijing (to its south) and Tianjin.

It supports government agencies and private enterprises across China, and was built in partnership with IBM, a strategy to pair state infrastructure with international technology expertise.

 

7 Switch SuperNAP Campus — Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Switch’s first hyperscale colocation, the Las Vegas SuperNAP spans three interconnected buildings — SuperNAP 7, 8, and 9.  It houses 120 cloud service providers and managed hosting firms and features advanced multi-mode cooling capable of supporting workloads up to 1,500 watts per square foot, far exceeding typical industry densities.

Like the Citadel, it operates entirely on renewable energy.

 

8 NSA Utah Data Centre — Bluffdale, Utah, USA

Reported area: 1,500,000 sq ft | 139,000 sq metres | 34 acres | 14 hectares (buildings only)
Power capacity: 65 MW
Owner: US National Security Agency

This is a highly secure intelligence-gathering and data storage facility. Access is strictly controlled and information about its operations is limited.  It is estimated to store vast quantities of intercepted communications and intelligence data. The nature of its workload explains the lower power consumption (information storage as opposed to AI).

 

9 QTS Atlanta Metro Data Centre — Atlanta, Georgia, SE USA

Reported area: 990,000 sq ft | 92,000 sq metres | 99 acres | 40 hectares
Power capacity: 278 MW
Owner: QTS Realty Trust (owned by Blackstone)

This Atlanta facility is a major hub for enterprise and hyperscale customers. Its 99-acre site provides substantial room for expansion, and its high power density of 278 MW relative to its floor area reflects the increasingly compute-intensive nature of modern workloads, particularly AI inference and training.

 

10 Yotta NM1 Data Centre — Panvel, Maharashtra, India

Reported area: 820,000 sq ft | 76,180 sq metres | 19 acres | 7.6 hectares
Power capacity: 50 MW (initial phase)
Owner: Yotta Infrastructure

This is South Asia’s largest data centre.  Sited near Mumbai, it features advanced power redundancy and disaster recovery systems.

Planned investment is currently over $1.1 billion across multiple phases.  With surging demand for cloud services and driven by the Digital India initiative, Yotta NM1 is the flagship of India’s rapidly growing digital infrastructure market.   The Panvel campus is will grow substantially beyond its initial footprint.
