Deal – home to the busiest port in England?
Deal’s prominence in history as once the busiest port in England may have passed but Deal is still has many reminders of days of past glory with attractive houses and streets and many buildings, ancient monuments and castles.
Walmer castle, Deal Castle (a Device Fort with an unusual rose design built by Henry VIII) and Sandown Castle protected the town and its anchorage between the beach and the Goodwin Sands.
Deal has had three piers, the first of which was wooden and was destroyed in a storm. The second one was iron, but was damaged beyond repair by a mined ship in 1940. Deal’s present pier is a Grade II listed building and the last remaining fully intact leisure pier in the county.

Under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996, every ‘adjoining owner’ is subject to the provisions of the Act when work is carried out on their home or other property. In a typical domestic property scenario this is usually limited to one or two parties. Larger commercial developments can encompass many freehold properties and tenanted properties. The notices and recording of condition should always follow the protocol of the Party Wall Acts. Deal surveyors often act both for the party carrying out the building works, as joint surveyors acting to make sure matters are appropriately dealt with as well as for the neighbouring property owners to protect their interests or as joint agreed surveyors
