A number of the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Big Six\u00e2\u20ac\u009d energy firms have claimed that the increases are because of rising wholesale prices, but recent data doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t support this.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Statistics released from Ofgem, the energy regulator, suggests that wholesale prices rose by only 1.7 per cent over the last year \u00e2\u20ac\u201c a mere fraction of the levels energy companies are attempting to justify.
