The Act satisfied this criterion, providing statutory authority for the incumbent Secretary of State, in this case Danny Alexander MP, to financially assist private projects.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4510\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4510\" style=\"width: 216px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/?attachment_id=4510\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4510\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-small wp-image-4510 \" title=\"Westminster\" src=\"http:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/London1-216x300.jpg\" alt=\"Palace of Westminster\" width=\"216\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/London1-216x300.jpg 216w, https:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/London1.jpg 395w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 216px) 85vw, 216px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4510\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Houses of Parliament, London<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Bill took just 55 days to pass through Parliament and centres around the UK Guarantee Scheme, which enables the Government to use its credibility on financial markets to underwrite major private projects.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander MP, commented:<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Securing Royal Assent just three months after the launch of the UK Guarantee scheme shows that we are getting on with delivering the vital infrastructure that the country needs to boost growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Since July we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve had significant interest from industry, and passed the legislation to make the scheme a reality. We can now get on with the search for eligible projects, and I hope today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s progress will encourage project sponsors to come forward to see how they can take advantage of the strength of the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s balance sheet by taking up a guarantee.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>The \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcsignificant interest\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 he mentioned comes in the form of 60 projects that have come forward for financing discussions with the Government under the Scheme and now the first project, a \u00c2\u00a31bn order for Crossrail rolling stock, has been successfully underwritten.<\/p>\n<p>Thames Water\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a33.6bn\u00c2\u00a0Thames Tideway sewer project is also reputedly soon to be underwritten.<\/p>\n<p>The offer of guarantees will be awarded on a case by case basis and will be subject to due diligence and Parliamentary approval processes.
