A civil engineering contractor building flood defences in Essex returned from a break to find its digger and a dumper truck underwater.<\/strong><\/p>\n

North Notts Civils was caught out by rapidly rising spring tides during work at Chalkwell in Southend, Essex.<\/p>\n

The firm was working for Southend Council on repairs to the sea wall<\/p>\n

John Lamb, the council\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s deputy leader with responsibility for regeneration and enterprise, told the Daily Mail<\/em>: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The vehicles were quickly recovered.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153They were stranded on part of Chalkwell beach as there is a company doing work repairing and replacing groynes.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153They got caught out but it is part of important flood defence work. No doubt they will use another vehicle and the work will carry on.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

\n

The swell came as spring tides increased in Southend. The one that took out the construction vehicles on Chalkwell beach\u00c2\u00a0measured 5.9metres.<\/p>\n
