Madrid. Police forcibly evict an 87-year-old woman from the flat she has rented for 70 years.\u00a0 This catalyses everything.<\/p>\n<p><strong>26 September<\/strong>. Madrid.\u00a0 The Madrid Tenants\u2019 Union organises a protest march which fragments into rioting against police.<\/p>\n<p><strong>24-26 September.\u00a0 Madrid.\u00a0 The District<\/strong>.\u00a0 A major international event bringing property professionals, industry experts, investors and politicians also attracts protesters from over 20 countries to raise the profile of rent issues across Europe.\u00a0 They camp outside the government buildings and sleep on nearby streets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>29 September<\/strong>. Prime Minister Sanchez announces a range of measures to improve the housing crisis.\u00a0 In discussion, conservative opposition parties oppose these, requiring time for \u2018more rigour\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>October <\/strong>Having been widely criticised for failure to deal with the migrant crisis, Sanchez decides to call and early general election &#8211; with housing and renters\u2019 rights a central issue.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The District<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The District is a Spanish trade fair and conference which brings together investors, funds and advisers.\u00a0 Organisers describe it as being focused on global capital with the main participants being international investment funds.\u00a0 Four such events have been held in the autumn in Barcelona, with the latest running from 22-24 September 2026 in Madrid.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Who Runs The District?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nebext, Next Business Exhibitions SL organises the event.<\/p>\n<p>It is a privately held Spanish events company which runs a number of other events and shows such as Advanced Factories, Rebuild, Digital Enterprise Show and Tourism Innovation Summit.<\/p>\n<p>Nebext\u2019s Chief Executive is Albert Planas Riera.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Other Key Figures<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Juan Velayos is President of The District event.\u00a0 He has a background in law and property including time as CEO of homebuilder Neinor Homes, time heading PwC\u2019s global and Spanish real estate practice and later as managing partner at Alantra.\u00a0 Velayos is a founding partner of JV20.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>The District: Attendees<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to across-magazine, the 2025 event involving over 400 speakers attracted 14,537 executives from over 40 countries<\/p>\n<p>These included leaders from Blackstone, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Money<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-16438 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/rsz_120170321_155422-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"monopoly houses\" width=\"250\" height=\"141\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/rsz_120170321_155422-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/rsz_120170321_155422-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/rsz_120170321_155422.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 85vw, 250px\" \/>The event is intended to bring together potential investors and professionals to facilitate property related deals.\u00a0 As with any such event, the financial benefit to the host city is considerable and the 2025 meeting generated an estimated 35 million euros to the local economy.<\/p>\n<p>The 2026 Madrid The District advertised more than 360 exhibiting firms and predicted attendance of more than 20,000 professionals, generating over 42 million euros for the city.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Happens at The District?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As well as opportunities to visit specialist property trade stands, each fair includes:<\/p>\n<p>The District World Summit (the main meeting)<\/p>\n<p>The Leader Ship Summit: a lunch mingling public officials and property leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The World-Class District Awards: recognition for the year\u2019s best European property projects and deals.<\/p>\n<p>A forum for one-to-one meetings and forums for all things property.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Impact of The District<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In five years, The District has become one of Europe\u2019s largest property investment fairs.\u00a0 Its impact is largely in Southern Europe bringing together international funding for Spanish and European projects.<\/p>\n<p>Regions compete to host it because of the economic benefits its attendees bring.<\/p>\n<p>It does not impact national policy, nor of itself does it hold any assets.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The District is not the only major international property investments event.\u00a0 Others include MIPIM in Cannes and Munich\u2019s Expo Real.<\/p>\n<p>The timing of The District in Madrid has concentrated attention on Spanish housing and rental troubles.\u00a0 Property issues will lie at the heart of all the political parties\u2019 campaigns for the November election.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a9<a href=\"http:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/INDEX\/INDEX1.html\">www.PropertySurveying.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The District Property Fair, Spain.\u00a0 I predict a Riot.
