{"id":16393,"date":"2017-03-21T11:01:53","date_gmt":"2017-03-21T11:01:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/?page_id=16393"},"modified":"2017-03-21T14:39:46","modified_gmt":"2017-03-21T14:39:46","slug":"scary-monsters-and-super-streets","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/?page_id=16393","title":{"rendered":"Scary Monsters (and Super Streets)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With agreed sales of 2,386 properties in May alone last year, online estate agent, Purplebricks, has \u00c2\u00a0revealed some pretty scary results from its research on property names and addresses of the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 2,000 place names in the UK were found to reference the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcghoulish\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, although that didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t deter the 180,000 people who live in Coffin Close, Spook Hill or Goblin Green in Swindon, Dorking and Welwyn Garden City respectively.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some of the addresses we found might have a creepy ring to them,&#8221; said Michael Bruce, CEO, Purplebricks, &#8220;but far from deterring potential buyers, we have found it can arouse interest and often encourages a viewing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The company found the most common spooky references to be \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcCemetery\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 (used in addresses in 850 towns), \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcGrave\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 (180 references), \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcCoven\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 (143 places). \u00c2\u00a0There were 40 streets associated with \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcGallows\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, 30 mentioning \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcHallows\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and 23 \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcHanging\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.\u00c2\u00a0 Hell was found in 67 areas, while 20 went to \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcDevil\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, 39 containing \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcWitches\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcSpiders\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 in 19 locations.\u00c2\u00a0 There were 18 \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcHatchets\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, five \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcWarlocks\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, two \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcWizards\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and four \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcBloods\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most of these names are linked with the colourful past of that particular neighbourhood,&#8221; Michael Bruce explained. &#8220;They certainly don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t affect prices and in some cases actually boost curiosity. Many buyers consider the unusual addresses to have added cache. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s nice that such road names survive, they reflect the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s rich history and many date back hundreds of years.
