{"id":16014,"date":"2016-11-08T12:25:43","date_gmt":"2016-11-08T12:25:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/?page_id=16014"},"modified":"2016-11-10T13:12:39","modified_gmt":"2016-11-10T13:12:39","slug":"burglary-victims-responsible-doors-not-locked","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/?page_id=16014","title":{"rendered":"Burglary Victims Responsible if their Doors are not Locked"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-16077\" src=\"http:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/Door-handle-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"door-handle\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/Door-handle-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/Door-handle.jpg 576w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/>The Assistant Chief Constable of Leicestershire has been reported as stating that the police will no longer investigate crimes of burglary at a property if the victim did not lock their door or secure their premises.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Philip Kay, Assistant Chief Constable of Leicestershire Constabulary based at Enderby, said he would prefer his officers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 endeavours to be used in helping tackle crime prevention issues.\u00c2\u00a0 He stated that students especially ignore home security.\u00c2\u00a0 There are a large number of students in Leicester itself, as well as Loughborough and other locations in Leicestershire and Rutland, which are within the operational area covered by Mr Kay\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s constabulary.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kay has previously been recognized nationally for having worked with partners and communities to significantly reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and has been Assistant Chief Constable since 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kay stated that there is <em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153an expectation within the NHS that we are not going to operate on you if your body mass index is too high, yet if people leave windows and doors open there is an expectation the police will investigate\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Mr Kay\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s comments were condemned by Councilors\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and Academic staff who said they sounded like an invitation for burglars\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 or a burglars\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 charter.<\/p>\n<p>The extent to which insurance companies may or may not use this to decline or refuse claims remains to be seen.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a9 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/\">www.propertysurveying.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>LCB<br \/>\n19.10.16<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Assistant Chief Constable of Leicestershire has been reported as stating that the police will no longer investigate crimes of burglary at a property if the victim did not lock their door or secure their premises.
