Objections were received from locals and the National Trust, and a judicial review was ordered. This is not unusual \u00e2\u20ac\u201c it happens up and down the country all the time.<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-12674 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/boathouse-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"boathouse turbine site\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/boathouse-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/boathouse.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/>What sets this one apart is that Laugharne is the site of Dylan Thomas\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Boathouse, where he wrote <em>Under Milk Wood<\/em> and <em>Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night<\/em>. The view across the estuary and Gower is what inspired much of his work, and the location attracts visitors from all over the world to experience the peace and tranquillity of this little part of South Wales.<\/p>\n<p>The first poem he wrote in the Boathouse, called <em>Over Sir John\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Hill<\/em>, is descriptive of the view and the birds of prey he saw. <em>Poem on His Birthday<\/em> is similarly evocative of the local wildlife and scenery.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-12675 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/dylan-laugharne-sunset-300x156.jpg\" alt=\"dylan laugharne-sunset turbine site\" width=\"300\" height=\"156\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/dylan-laugharne-sunset-300x156.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.propertysurveying.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/dylan-laugharne-sunset.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/>It is 100 years ago that Dylan Thomas was born, and in his centenary year Thomas\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s granddaughter, Hannah Ellis, led the campaign to ban the turbine. Thomas is buried in the churchyard in Laugharne, and her mother\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ashes are scattered there. She has placed a bench there and sits there for her peaceful time. She said it was \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcupsetting\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 to think of a wind turbine in the landscape, and that the decision was \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcabsurd\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/p>\n<p>Huw Davie, of the Dylan Thomas Society of Great Britain, said that the erection of the wind turbine would &#8216;desecrate&#8217; the celebrated view.<\/p>\n<p>The council were told that the turbine would be 2km from the Boathouse, and at 147ft (45m) high, wouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be visible from Laugharne because of woodland. Also, they intended to paint the turbine \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcoff-white\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 to \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcblend in with the sky\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. A visit was made to the turbine site, but not to Laugharne.<\/p>\n<p>Following a hearing at the High Court Cardiff in January, the judge was told that the planning committee had ignored advice from the council\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s landscape officer that it would be a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153discordant element and an alien intrusion within an historic landscape of exceptional sensitivity\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. Judge Andrew Gilbart QC revoked the wind-turbine planning permission, saying that it was \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcimpossible\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 to believe that the turbine wouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be seen.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Delaney, Laugharne Community Council said the town was \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcdelighted with the ruling\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.
