This compares with inflation of less than 35%!<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>What is Council Tax ?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">This is a tax on the occupation of property.\u00c2\u00a0 Its origins are based on some of the oldest Laws and Taxes in England and Wales. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>Are you paying too much Council tax ?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">There are two main reasons why people pay too much Council tax.\u00c2\u00a0 Some households may be in the wrong band and have been incorrectly assessed and others may have reason to get help with their council tax bills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>How can you pay less Council tax?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">Either the band or assessment of the property is incorrect and you successfully appeal, (or get a suitably qualified chartered surveyor to appeal against the assessment), or, you may qualify for a reduction on financial or other grounds.\u00c2\u00a0 We recommend that you enquire of your billing authority in order to clarify these.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>How Council tax levels are set.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">In England, the Council tax is based upon the price a property might have realised if it had been sold on <strong>April 1st, 1991<\/strong>.\u00c2\u00a0 These are then arranged in bands and the cost of the tax is set annually by a compilation of central government and the local authorities concerned.\u00c2\u00a0 Each usually blames the other for the annual increases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">The bands in England are as follows:-<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Band\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Valuation between<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">A\u00c2\u00a0 &gt;\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a340,000<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u00c2\u00a340,001\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0 &lt; B\u00c2\u00a0&gt; \u00c2\u00a352,000<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u00c2\u00a352,001\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 &lt;\u00c2\u00a0C &gt; \u00c2\u00a368,000<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u00c2\u00a368,001\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 &lt;\u00c2\u00a0D &gt; \u00c2\u00a388,000<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u00c2\u00a388,001\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 &lt;\u00c2\u00a0E &gt; \u00c2\u00a3120,000<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u00c2\u00a3160,000\u00c2\u00a0 &lt;\u00c2\u00a0F &gt; \u00c2\u00a3320,000<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u00c2\u00a3320,000\u00c2\u00a0&gt; G<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">N.B.
