Lymington

Lymington has a large tourist industry because of its close distance to the New Forest and its harbour. The earliest version of Lymington was around the Iron Age hill fort or as 'Buckland Rings' today. The Lymington town we know today began as an Anglo-Saxon village where the Jutes arrived from the Isle of Wight in the 6th century and founded a village called 'Limentun', with 'tun' an Old English word meaning a farm or hamlet and 'limen' which is derived from the Old English word 'lemanos' meaning 'elm tree'.
