The property market fact file is a collection of data compiled each month by our chartered surveyors and the team, collating survey data, statistics and related trends and information from the building and property market. This will help many persons with an interest in property to gain an accurate view of what is happening in the property market as a whole in the UK.

Rights of Light Precedent not considered by the Court of Appeal
The High Court Level Ruling by His Honour Judge Langan affecting the rights to light of a building have not been overidden by the Court of Appeal.
This could have consequences for lawyers, developers, planners and valuers until a definitive challenge has been made, with the Heaney case now being considered a precedent.

Landlord guilty of Breach under Housing Act: HMO
A man from Hampton Bishop near Hereford has been prosecuted for not registering a rental property as a house in multiple occupation (HMO).

Housing Benefit Changes Commence in April 2011
Changes may impact on anyone in the three main sections of the property market affected by Housing Benefit commencing from this April. Those on benefit in the private rented sector due to unfortunate circumstances such as unemployment, those who live off the benefit system as well as those private rented landlords themselves could all be notably affected.

High Speed Rail Link Consultation Period
A public consultation about the proposed high speed rail link from Birmingham to London has begun. It will continue until July 29th 2011. The government has a travelling roadshow which is being taken along the 140 mile proposed route, visiting the places which will be affected by the new rail service, as well as certain other major UK cities.

Business and Property Tax Breaks in 21 New Enterprise Zones
Potential Business Property rate savings of £275,000 over 5 years. The recent Budget announced the plan to create 21 Enterprise Zones across England. The exact locations of the first four zones have been named, along with the general areas where seven further zones will be located.

A new hard hat has been launched which is designed to stop construction workers wolf-whistling at passing women – as announced in last Friday. Manufacturers of the “Stop That Hard Hat” believe the politically-correct headgear will spell an end to sexist behaviour on site.
