New Legal Regulations to be set for HMO Landlords
The Coalition Government has announced that a change in the law is to be implemented which will affect Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO).

Council Tax Revaluation put on hold
The Coalition Government have pledged not to revalue properties for Council Tax during this Parliament. We reported in July 2009 that the VOA (Valuation Office Agency) would be reassessing properties in England, also taking into account aspects of the property like scenic views, proximity to parks and "peacefulness".

Increased evidence for North / South divide
There is increased evidence of a North / South divide even before the government's spending cuts have been implemented. A study by retail analysts looked at the vacancy rate of retail outlets in town centres throughout England. It found that, on average, one in seven shops is vacant, but in places in the north of Britain, almost one in three shop premises are empty.

A recent survey for the Council of Mortgage Lenders, undertaken by YouGov, shows that people still see owning their own property as a long-term aim. Interesting statistical changes to the hopes and aspirations were noted.
